Famous car designer Gordon Murray, the main man behind the McLaren F1 supercar, has created his version of the famous Batmobile.
The vehicle is set to feature in the upcoming Batman Live stage show and represents a more unique interpretation of the DC comic superhero’s transport.
It sports a sleek, stealthy and aerodynamic carbon fibre body that looks like a cross between a rocket and a F1 car.
The carbon fibre material itself is said to be ‘a new type’ which is ten times lighter than steel and 100 times stronger.
With a large rear wing at the back and tall blade-shaped wheel housing, this Batmobile is more reminiscent of the more traditional style car seen in the comics and eighties Batman films.
However this vehicle also includes some eco-friendly features, making it more relevant to modern road cars then perhaps anticipated.
This batmobile has an onboard hydrogen fuel cell stack and lithium-ion batteries which are reportedly capable of ‘levitating’ the car 40mm above the ground. The drivetrain comprises of four ‘diode virtual wheels’ which are lit up by blue LEDs.
Pr. Gordon Murray oversaw the initial sketches and concept of this vehicle, although the actual making of the model was done by a separate team.
He explained that the car was designed with the idea of being a plausible car for the future, since the majority of technology included is based on materials available today.
It is currently unconfirmed how the Batmobile will exactly move about stage during the live show. The tour will start on the 19July in Manchester, running across venues in the UK until October.
